Harvard’s EdRedesign Names Rob Watson Deputy Director; Appoints Inaugural Cohort of By All Means Senior Fellows

EdRedesign, based at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), has named Rob Watson to the newly created position of Deputy Director to support EdRedesign’s expanding footprint in the cradle-to-career place-based partnership field. EdRedesign also announced the establishment of its By All Means Senior Fellowship, a visiting fellowship initiative led by Watson for exemplary senior leaders of place-based collaborative action. Paul Reville

Professor Reville returned to the Harvard Graduate School of Education as the Francis Keppel Professor of Practice of Educational Policy and Administration in 2013, having just completed nearly five years of service as the secretary of education for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As Governor Deval Patrick's top education advisor, Reville established the Executive Office of Education and had oversight of higher education, K-12, and early education in the nation's leading student achievement state. He served in the Governor's Cabinet and played a leading education reform role on matters

Ed School’s Rob Watson selected as 2024 Presidential Leadership Scholar

Rob Watson, deputy director of The EdRedesign Lab at Harvard Graduate School of Education is one of 60 scholars who will form the Presidential Leadership Scholars’ (PLS) ninth class. For nearly a decade, PLS has served as a catalyst for a diverse network of leaders brought together to collaborate and create meaningful change in the U.S. and around the world as they learn about leadership through the lens of the presidential experiences of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Lyndon B. Johnson and their administrations.

Paul Reville shared his analysis of the Supreme Court’s potential ruling on affirmative action. Reville is the former Secretary of Education of Massachusetts and a professor at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education, where he also runs the Education Redesign Lab. His latest book, co-authored with Lynne Sacks, is “Collaborative Action for Equity and Opportunity: A Practical Guide for School and Community Leaders.”

To address inequities, use marijuana tax for a Cleveland children’s cabinet: Derrick Holifield

U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, in a meeting in April at City Hall, addressed what Murthy called the mental health crisis among American youth, prompting Bibb to talk of his hopes of creating a "children's cabinet" to address issues facing young people in the city. In a guest column today, former Cleveland educator Derrick Holifield urges Ohio to direct part of its new marijuana tax revenues to support such a children's cabinet and to finance other initiatives that help address and repair past inequities, particularly those focused on underserved youth.

Arturo Sierra

Arturo Sierra is a research assistant at EdRedesign and a 2025 first-generation, low-income graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he earned a master’s in Learning Design and Technology with a concentration in Literacy and Languages. Prior to HGSE, Arturo completed a post-baccalaureate in computer science at NYU and earned a B.A. in Communication from USC, where he also pursued coursework in cognitive science and narrative studies.
