In partnership with Harvard Business School, EdRedesign hosted a panel discussion on March 3, 2020 featuring John King, former U.S. Secretary of Education and current president and CEO of the Education Trust, and David Deming, principal investigator at CLIMB Initiative/Opportunity Insights. Paul Reville, founding director of EdRedesign, moderated the discussion. King and Deming discussed their organizations' research and work in the education field, and outlined a number of best practices for improving K-12 and higher education's ability to help low-income students succeed. Best practices include a focus on early reading proficiency, increasing the number of qualified teachers of color, expanding access to college counseling and financial support as well as support from mentors and tutors for students navigating the college experience. The audience included HBS alumni, Boston educators, and political and community leaders.
