Jaylen Hackett is a second year Master’s in Public Policy (MPP) candidate at Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He is a native of Mobile, Alabama and received his Bachelor's degree in Economics and Political Science from The University of Southern Mississippi. Jaylen has had experience in the Central Office of Mobile County Public School System(MCPSS) and creating in-school tutoring and mentoring programs within Hattiesburg Public Schools throughout undergrad. He spent the two years before coming to HKS completing his Teach For America fellowship as a Middle School Math Teacher in Charlotte. The summer immediately before his first year, he worked at the Jersey City Housing Authority in supporting efforts to revamp on-site summer camps across five housing sites and supporting the development of after-school programming. Following his first year at the Kennedy School, Jaylen took a leave of absence to serve at Robin Hood Foundation in supporting COVID relief and advocacy efforts to New Yorkers living in poverty focusing heavily on child care and workforce issues.
